Our italian language school is located in the historic centre
of Florence in the district of Santo Spirito, home to artisans and
artists, where, being just off the beaten tourist track, the economic
and social characteristics of the area have been left intact. The
Centro Machiavelli is in Piazza Santo Spirito itself, one of the
finest squares of Florence. With its bars and out-door cafés,
its daily market, workshops and restaurants, it is a favourite haunt
of Florentines and thus provides our students of Italian with an
excellent opportunity to meet them.
Apart from grammar and syntax, we consider that there are four skills
- reading, writing, listening and speaking - which need to be studied
and developed right from the first level, to achieve understanding
and expression in authentic communicative situations. To this end
situations are simulated in the classroom using authentic teaching
material.
Structures and vocabulary are adapted to the lower levels and become
progressively more complex until, at advanced levels, different
types of text are used to encourage the recognition and reproduction
of different language styles.
Cultural Activities (Two activities a week): Seminars on Italian
economic, political and social history and the historic-urbanistic
evolution of Florence. Introductory lessons on the Florentine artistic
and cultural heritage with slides, video and sightseeing tours with
the teacher. In the summer, there are also recreational activities:
walking, excursions, wine tasting and dinners. The seminar topics
can be developed in single-theme courses with programme and prices
adjusted according to the particular needs of the student. The school
has a tape and video library which can be used by students in the
afternoon.

and culture in Venice. The teaching staff is highly qualified. All
italian language and art teachers have attended special education
seminars and teaching training programs. The school is located in
the center of Venice, in a "campo" well known by Venetians,
Campo Santa Margherita: a meeting place for students and residents
who do their shopping in the beautiful shops of the area or take
a break chatting and drinking in the open air cafés. An historic
building with a wide terrace on the campo hosts the school. Students
have free access to Internet, a self-access study room with video
facilities where they can watch films from the video collection
of the school.
A variety of Italian courses at all levels are available throughout
the year. Students can choose or combine different course solutions.
Regular language course lasts 4 weeks. Is also possible to enrol
only for 1, 2 or 3 weeks. Beginners can start only from the first
Monday of every monthly course (the schedule with the course dates
point out a Monday of week 1 colored in red). Students who already
know some Italian can enrol at times other than course-starting
dates.
At the beginning of each Italian course, students sit a simple written
test and an oral interwiew. This will allow them to join the group
of their same level. For this reasons is suggested that students
arrive at the school at 8.30 a.m. on the first day of the class.
Fees cover all teaching material. At the end of the class student
can ask for a certificate of attendance or, on request, a certificate
attesting to the successful completion of courses. A lesson-hour
corresponds to 55 minutes.
Each student can participate in all the cultural activities offered
monthly by the school. All the activities are free of charge.
